VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team split a doubleheader at Bryant & Stratton to open the season on Tuesday, erupting for 14 runs in the opener before falling late in the nightcap.
Game 1: AACC 14, Bryant & Stratton 2 (6 inn.)
Camden Hodges and Ryan Jones powered AACC to a 14–2 win in the opener, combining for three home runs as the Riverhawks rolled to a run‑rule victory. Hodges went 3-for-4 with two homers and five RBIs, while Jones added a three‑run shot as part of a five-RBI day.
AACC scored in five straight innings, breaking the game open with a five‑run fourth that included Jones' home run and an RBI double from Alex Swan.
Right‑hander Scott Grabau earned the win in relief, throwing three shutout innings with two strikeouts. The Riverhawks' pitchers allowed only four hits, and the defense turned in 15 putouts with just one error.
Bryant & Stratton scored twice in the first but managed only two baserunners over the final four innings.
Game 2: Bryant & Stratton 12, AACC 2 (6 inn.)
AACC was held hitless through five innings of the nightcap and committed five errors in a 12–2 loss to the Bobcats. The Riverhawks did not score until the sixth, when Camden Hodges hit his third home run of the day, a two‑run shot to center.
Starting pitcher Gavin Glos took the loss, allowing three runs in the first and two more in the second.
Bryant & Stratton collected 11 hits and scored in every inning except the fourth and fifth. Brandon Ostalaza reached base four times and scored three runs, while Nelson Zapata drove in three.
Aidan Graham had one hit and scored once for AACC, and AJ Cozzone finished the day 3-for-5 across both games.
Up next, the Riverhawks (1-1) travel to Virginia Peninsula for am 11 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday, February 14.
