ARNOLD, Md. — The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team dropped a Region 20 doubleheader to visiting CCBC Essex Saturday, falling 11–1 in five innings and 11–10 after a Knights seventh inning rally in the second game.
Game One: Essex 11, AACC 1 (5 inn.)
AACC struggled to slow Essex's early surge as the Knights scored nine runs across the first two innings, including an eight runs in the second.
The Riverhawks' lone run came in the fourth inning courtesy of an RBI single from Bryce Peacock that scored Travis Fleshman, who led off the inning with a single up the middle. AACC mustered just three hits while striking out 10 times.
Riverhawks' starter Gavin Glos was tagged for seven earned runs in 1.2 innings before giving way to Noah Cramer, who allowed two earned runs over the final 3.1 innings.
Game Two: Essex 11, AACC 10
AACC flipped the script early in the nightcap, building a 6–2 lead in the first inning and adding runs in the second, third and fourth to take a 10–3 advantage. But after scoring single runs in the fifth and sixth, Essex stormed back with a six‑run seventh to cap the sweep.
AACC produced 11 hits in the game, led by a 3-for-4 effort from AJ Cozzone, who crossed the plate twice and walked once. Aidan Graham went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored, while Fleshman went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Zach Davidson added a two-run double.
The Riverhawks' fast start featured RBIs from Fleshman, Davidson, Jack Woods and Alex Swan as part of the six‑run first. AACC added two more in the second and single runs in the third and fourth.
Pitching proved costly as Essex drew 10 walks in the game and capitalized in the seventh on four hits, two walks and an infield error. Riverhawks' starter Gunnar Gemmell allowed three runs in 2.1 innings, and Scott Grabau surrendered five (four earned) across 3.1 before giving way to Matt Donaldson with two on and no outs in the seventh.
AACC is back in action on Tuesday, March 10th, in a 1 p.m. Region 20 divisional doubleheader at CCBC Dundalk.
