Montgomery Tops Baseball in Region 20 Tournament
Riverhawks record 25+ wins for the fourth-straight season
McHENRY, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team fell behind early and couldn't catch up to Montgomery Saturday in the play-in round of the Region 20 DII Baseball Tournament, falling to the Raptors, 11-3 in seven innings at Garrett College.
Zach Davidson went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs; Camden Hodges hit his team-leading 13th home run of the season in the sixth inning. Ryan Jones went 1-for-4 with a double, and Bryce Peacock added a single and a walk.
AACC got on the board in the first inning when Davidson hit a line drive to left field that plated Jones, who had reached via double.
Montgomery responded with five runs on four hits and an error in the second inning, and never trailed after that, building a 7-1 advantage after three.
The Riverhawks threatened in the sixth. After back-to-back home runs from Davidson and Hodges, AACC had the bases loaded with two outs, but ended the inning on a fly out to center. The rally was short-lived as Montgomery added three runs in the seventh inning to end it via run rule.
Montgomery finished with 11 hits, including two home runs in the 7th, while AACC was limited to five hits.
Starter Scott Grabau took the loss for AACC after allowing five runs in 1.2 innings. The Riverhawks' bullpen followed with Matt Donaldson and Jack Woods, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
AACC finishes the season with a 25-25 record, marking the fourth consecutive season with 25+ wins and the fourth consecutive appearance in the Region 20 Tournament.
