B2B Champs! Men's Golf Wins Second-Straight Region 20 Title
Will Maddox earns individual title, joins Brophy and Sarrach as All-Region
HAMPSTEAD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College men's golf team won its second-straight NJCAA Region 20 title Thursday afternoon at Oakmont Green Golf Course. Freshman Will Maddox was the individual medalist with a two-day total of 157 (+13).
Maddox, Tim Brophy, and Eddie Sarrach earned All-Region honors after finishing first, second, and fourth respectively.
Maddox shot three birdies and led the field by one stroke after the first day of play which saw AACC win its third consecutive MDJUCO title. He shot for par or better on six of the last nine holes on Thursday to fend off Brophy for the individual title.
Brophy rebounded from a tough first round to shoot a tournament-low 75 on Thursday. He had a tremendous back nine that saw the sophomore start out with a pair of birdies and then shoot for par on six of the final seven holes to finish with a two-day score of 159 (+15).
Sarrach hit his stride on the back nine of day two, closing out the tournament with five-straight pars. He cut five strokes off his first round score to finish with a two-day score of 163 (+19).
Matt Crawmer was consistent across both days, finishing with a 166 in sixth place overall, and Darren Hoffman rallied on Thursday to finish with a 176 in 10th place.
The Riverhawks advance to the NJCAA Division II Southeast District Championship April 28 and 29 at the Country Club of Bristol in Tennessee. AACC finished fifth at the 2024 District Championship.
