James Kavney Named NJCAA Player of the Week
Sophomore dominated the faceoff x in pair of games
ARNOLD, Md. – Anne Arundel Community College face off specialist James Kavney has been named the NJCAA Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week for games played the week of March 2, 2026. The sophomore went 38-for-54 at the faceoff x across two games.
Against No. 4 CCBC Essex on Wednesday, March 4, the sophomore from Edgewater, Md., won 20 of 34 faceoffs and picked up 12 groundballs.
Three days later against Mercer County, Kavney won 18 of 20 faceoffs, picked up 19 groundballs, scored a goal and assisted another.
Kavney leads the NJCAA with a 72.4% faceoff win percentage, having won 76 of 105 draws through four games this season.
In his freshman campaign, Kavney won 156 of 265 faceoffs in 13 games and was an All-Region 20 Second Team honoree.
Next up for AACC is a midweek scrimmage against Fork Union Military Academy on March 18 at Siegert Field. The Riverhawks then travel to New York for weekend games at Jefferson CC and Tompkins-Cortland CC.
