COLUMBIA, Md. — The Anne Arundel Community College men's lacrosse team dropped a non-region game to No. 5 Howard Community College Wednesday afternoon, falling 27–9 on the road.
Sophomore attacker Alex Patton paced the Riverhawks with four goals, including three in the first half and AACC's final tally with 4:06 left in the fourth.
Brock Cutler added two goals, scoring once in the first quarter and again early in the fourth, while James Kavney and Evan Davidson each registered one goal. AACC was also credited with a team goal late in the first quarter after a misplay by the Dragons' goalie. Aaron Herdt and David Law each recorded one assist.
The Riverhawks pieced together a strong stretch midway through the first quarter—Patton scored twice, Cutler added another, and the team goal tied the game at 4—but Howard responded with a 16–1 run spanning the first, second, and third quarters to take full control.
A bright spot for AACC came at the faceoff X, where the Riverhawks won 27 of 41 draws, led by Kavney's dominant 20-for-26 performance. Freshman Ethan Johnson went 7-for-14.
Turnovers proved costly for the Riverhawks, who totaled 27 in the game, including nine in the fourth quarter, which repeatedly gave Howard transition opportunities and extended possessions.
Riverhawks' keeper Ian Roberts made 13 saves in the game.
AACC is back in action on Wednesday, March 18, in a 5 p.m. home scrimmage against Fork Union Military Academy. The Riverhawks then head to New York State for weekend games at Jefferson CC and Tompkins-Cortland CC.
