ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College men's soccer team put together its most complete performance of the season Tuesday night, rolling past Garrett College 4-1 at Siegert Field to snap a seven-game winless streak.
The Riverhawks partnered with the Latinx Club to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with an all-Spanish event highlighting the team members' heritages including the countries of El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Colombia, and Peru.
The Riverhawks scored twice in each half and outshot Garrett 27-10. Axel Cartagena put AACC ahead just 45 seconds into the match, finishing off a pass from Lucas Cerulla. Knolin Walker doubled the lead in the 35th minute, sending the Riverhawks into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
Anne Arundel wasted little time after the break. Jack Bell buried a goal in the 46th minute off an assist from Stephen Liberati to make it 3-0. Garrett answered in the 66th minute through Benjamin Lohr, but AACC sealed the win late as Aydan Simms netted an 87th minute tally.
Goalkeeper Ethan Kiniry made five saves in 90 minutes of work. Cartagena, Walker, Bell, and Simms each tallied goals, while Cerulla and Liberati added assists.
Garrett managed just six shots on target as the Riverhawks' back line controlled play.
AACC (2-7-1) returns to action on Thursday in a 4:30 p.m. Region 20 divisional game at Frederick.
