Softball Dominates Allegany in Twinbill Sweep

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College softball team swept visiting Allegany College of Maryland 20-1 (5 inn) and 12-1 (5 inn) in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon. Riverhawks freshman Gracie Culley struck out eight and gave up just one hit on the mound while driving in five runs in a 2-for-4 effort at the plate in the first game. She added two RBI in a 2-for-3 effort in the second game.

Overall, the Riverhawks cranked out 28 hits while striking out just three times on the day. Katie Rosati went 3-for-4 with a grand slam in the first game and added a two-run double in the second in a 1-for-3 performance. Kyleigh McQuade added a three-run home run in the first game and went 3-for-3 in game two with an RBI triple.

An Allegany error scored the first Riverhawks run in the first, and Hannah High hit a leadoff home run – Culley's only hit surrendered in the game – in the top of the second. The Riverhawks answered with a seven-run bottom half of the inning which included a pair of stolen bases and Culley's three-run triple.

AACC added a pair of runs in the third inning on a sac fly from Alexis Brengle, her second of the day, and an RBI single from Sylvia Frye.

It was the fourth where the Riverhawks exploded for 10 runs on seven hits and three Allegany errors. Rosati hit her grand slam with one out, followed by an RBI single from Frye and Culley's two-run double. McQuade wrapped up the scoring with a three-run homer before a strike out and a baserunning miscue ended the leaving two on.

AACC led off the second game with an 11-run, eight hit first inning. Brengle drove in three runs in the frame, first on a single to center, and later in the inning on a double to left.  She finished the game 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Frye hit a two-run triple to finish the scoring in the inning.

In the third, a two-out double from Daejiah Dayton developed into the Trojans' only score of the game when she came around to score on an infield error.

And in the fourth, McQuade plated AACC's final run with an RBI triple to right.

Veronica Hampton earned the win in the nightcap striking out three and scattering six hits.

AACC travels to Delaware Tech for a doubleheader Sunday. Game one is scheduled for a noon start.
