ARNOLD, Md. — The Anne Arundel Community College softball team dropped both games of a Region 20 doubleheader to visiting Cecil College Wednesday, falling 21–0 in five innings in the opener and 20–4 in five innings in the second game at the AACC Softball Field.
Game One: Cecil 21, AACC 0 (5 inn.)
Cecil struck early and often, scoring four runs in the first inning and building a 10‑0 lead by the third. The Seahawks capitalized on 17 walks, three hit batters and five wild pitches issued by AACC pitching.
Jayda Betts and Karlie Johnson each had infield singles and stole a base.
Ryleigh Smoot and Aubrey Cook combined to allow 21 runs (18 earned). Cook fanned the final batter of the top of the second to end the Seahawks' threat with runners stranded on second and third.
Game Two: Cecil 20, AACC 4 (5 inn.)
AACC showed early life, scoring once in the first on a passed ball and adding three more in the second on a two‑run single by Smoot that plated Kiara Vaselaros and Sydney Brown, who had drawn back-to-back walks. Betts added to the total scoring on a wild pitch, but Cecil responded with seven runs in the second and eight in the third.
AACC had two hits in the game and stole three bases: one each for Betts, Smooth, and Mariah Fitzhenry.
Smoot took the loss after allowing seven runs in 1.1 innings. Cook allowed 13 runs over 3.2 innings.
AACC continues Region 20 divisional action Saturday in a 12 p.m. doubleheader at CCBC Catonsville. The Riverhawks then return home to host Salem CC in a 12 p.m. doubleheader Sunday at the AACC Softball Field.
