ARNOLD, Md. -- The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team battled defensively but couldn't overcome a fast-paced Howard offense in an 87-36 loss in the Region 20 Divisional opener for both teams Wednesday night at Jenkins Gym.
Sophomore Kellie Harring paced the Riverhawks (0-4, 0-1 Region 20) with 11 points, four rebounds, and an assist, while Julia Fox added eight points, 10 rebounds, and six blocks. Kiara Vaselaros filled the stats sheet with nine points, eight rebounds, and three assists, and Gabi McFarlan-Wisniewski pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to go with four points and three steals.
Anne Arundel held Howard (5-3, 1-0) to 31.8% shooting from the field but struggled with turnovers, committing 46 that led to 51 Dragon points.
The Riverhawks showed balance on the boards, outrebounding Howard 49-46, with seven players grabbing at least four rebounds.
Anne Arundel will look to regroup Saturday in a 1 p.m. NJCAA Region 20 divisional home game against Cecil.
