Hot Start Fades in Women's Basketball Loss to Frederick
Kellie Harring scored a career-high 16 points
ARNOLD, Md. -- The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team opened Wednesday's Region 20 matchup with one of its strongest first quarters of the season, but Frederick's three-point shooting and defensive pressure proved too much as the Riverhawks fell 81-54 at Jenkins Gym.
AACC burst out to an early eight-point lead, fueled by efficient scoring from Kellie Harring and Kiara Vaselaros. The Riverhawks shot 8-for-17 in the opening period and matched the Cougars on the glass to take a 21–20 edge before Frederick seized momentum behind a barrage of threes.
Harring led AACC with a career-high 16 points, adding four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Vaselaros followed with 14 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, knocking down a trio of three-pointers and sparking several early transition opportunities.
Julia Fox energized the Riverhawks off the bench, scoring 14 points with six rebounds and three blocks on 7-of-16 shooting. McKenzie Gilbert and Ryleigh Smoot each added four points while combining for 11 rebounds.
Frederick (4–6, 2–4) was led by a standout night from Trinity Lindblade, who hit eight three-pointers and scored 28 points. The Cougars shot 43.5% from deep and forced 24 AACC turnovers, converting them into 28 points.
Despite the final margin, AACC (0–8, 0–4) showed stretches of cohesive ball movement, interior toughness and improved shooting efficiency. The Riverhawks travel to Chesapeake on Friday for a 5 p.m. Region 20 divisional game before closing out the first half of the season on Wednesday, December 17 in a 5 p.m. home game against Division I Baltimore City.
