Chesapeake Pulls Away From Women's Basketball
Vaselaros logs double-digit point effort for fourth straight game
WYE MILLS, Md. — Chesapeake College pulled away to hand the Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team a 106-48 loss Friday evening in NJCAA Region 20 divisional action at Skipjack Arena.
The Riverhawks kept pace early, trailing 27-11 after the first quarter and 49-24 at halftime, but Chesapeake used a decisive fourth-quarter surge to put the game out of reach. The Skipjacks outscored AACC 38-8 over the final 10 minutes, turning a competitive third quarter into a runaway finish.
Anne Arundel was led by Kiara Vaselaros, who scored a team-high 16 points while logging 37 minutes. Julia Fox added eight points, seven rebounds and three blocks, and Ryleigh Smoot chipped in with seven points and 10 rebounds. Kellie Harring chipped in seven points, while McKenzie Gilbert finished with six.
AACC shot 31.7% from the field, while Chesapeake capitalized on turnovers and second-chance opportunities. The Skipjacks forced 34 turnovers and held a significant edge on the glass, finishing with 66 rebounds.
The Skipjacks placed five players in double figures and finished with 22 assists.
Anne Arundel (0-9) will look to regroup on Wednesday, December 17th in a 5 p.m. home game against Division I Baltimore City.
