Women's Basketball's Defense Not Enough at Allegany
Riverhawks record 17 steals, seven blocks in game
CUMBERLAND, Md. — The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team recorded 17 steals and held Allegany College of Maryland under 30% shooting, but the Riverhawks couldn't overcome offensive struggles in a 60–36 road loss to the Trojans Saturday afternoon at Bob Kirk Arena.
AACC battled throughout all four quarters, showing impressive defensive activity with seven blocks and 17 steals, but a cold shooting day—just 24.6% from the field—ultimately made the difference.
Sophomore forward Gabi McFarlan‑Wisniewski delivered a strong two‑way performance, finishing with 12 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists while playing 39 minutes. She knocked down both of AACC's made threes on the day.
Guard Kellie Harring added eight points, attacking the mid‑range and scoring efficiently at the rim. Freshman Julia Fox provided a spark off the bench with seven points, four rebounds, and a pair of steals in just 10 minutes.
The Riverhawks consistently disrupted passing lanes and forced 23 Allegany turnovers, matching their opponent's defensive pressure.
Allegany dominated the rebounding margin 61–32, creating 23 offensive rebounds that extended possessions and led to high‑percentage second‑chance points.
AACC found rhythm after halftime, scoring 12 in the third quarter and 11 in the fourth, their most efficient stretches of the afternoon. McFarlan‑Wisniewski's shooting, Fox's energy, and Gilbert's interior defense kept the Riverhawks competitive, but Allegany responded each time with timely baskets and strong offensive rebounding.
The Riverhawks continue their stretch against Division I opponents in a 5 p.m. game at Harford on Wednesday, February 4.
