Women's Basketball Finds Late Offensive Rhythm in Loss to Hagerstown
Riverhawks travel to So. Maryland Wednesday
ARNOLD, Md. — The Hagerstown Community College women's basketball team used swarming defense and a dominant interior game to defeat Anne Arundel Community College, 82–37, on Saturday afternoon at Jenkins Gym.
Anne Arundel (0–16) was led by Kiara Vaselaros' 11 points with a pair of second-half three-pointers and four assists, while Kellie Harring scored 10 points. Chloe Underwood added 6 points and two steals, and McKenzie Gilbert finished with four points and four assists. As a team, AACC shot 30.4% from the floor.
Hagerstown (12–8) sprinted to a 26–10 lead after the first quarter and blew the game open with a 19–2 second frame to carry a 45–12 advantage into halftime. The Hawks finished at 47.6% from the field, held a 52–28 rebounding advantage, and generated 31 points off of AACC's turnovers.
After Hagerstown's opening burst, AACC briefly pulled even at 6–6 on a Ryleigh Smoot fast‑break layup with 6:28 left in the first, but the Hawks closed the quarter on a 20–4 run. The Riverhawks steadied after the break—Vaselaros scored five in the third, including a three at 4:42, and AACC put up 25 points after halftime—but Hagerstown answered with a 25‑point fourth to put it away.
AACC returns to Region 20 divisional action on Wednesday, February 11, in a 5 p.m. game at the College of Southern Maryland.
