LA PLATA, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter but could not close the gap in a 62–56 loss at the College of Southern Maryland on Wednesday night.
The Riverhawks trailed by as many as 14 and entered the fourth down 46–40, but a pair of early baskets by Kellie Harring and Julia Fox pulled AACC within two, 46–44. Southern Maryland answered with a 7–2 spurt and held the lead for the final seven minutes.
Kiara Vaselaros led AACC with 16 points on 5‑for‑9 shooting, including 2‑for‑3 from beyond the arc. McKenzie Gilbert posted 12 points and 9 rebounds, while Kellie Harring added 13 points. Fox contributed 10 points, five rebounds and a block off the bench.
AACC (0-17) shot 41.7% from the field and outrebounded the Hawks 40–41, but 27 turnovers proved costly, leading to 30 Southern Maryland points. The Riverhawks went 14-of-28 at the free‑throw line.
AACC has a quick turnaround, hosting No. 6 CCBC Essex at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 12 in Jenkins Gym.
