Montgomery Tops Women's Basketball
Vaselaros, Gilbert each net 11 points
ROCKVILLE, Md. — The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team fell 64–46 to Montgomery College on Saturday, despite a team‑high 11 points each from Kiara Vaselaros and McKenzie Gilbert in the Riverhawks' road divisional matchup.
AACC trailed 17–9 after the first quarter but briefly surged in the opening period behind a pair of early 3‑pointers from Vaselaros. Montgomery responded with sustained pressure on the offensive glass, outrebounding the Riverhawks 63–26, including 42 offensive boards, which proved decisive in limiting AACC's possessions and extending the Raptors' lead. Montgomery built its largest lead—23 points—midway through the fourth quarter.
Vaselaros finished with 11 points, six assists and three made threes, while Gilbert added 11 points and five rebounds while playing all 40 minutes. Gabi McFarlan‑Wisniewski contributed 10 points and seven rebounds, and Chloe Underwood scored six, including one of AACC's six 3‑pointers.
AACC shot 33.3% from the field and 42.9% from three, but Montgomery's second‑chance scoring (21 points) and transition production off turnovers (31 points) kept the Riverhawks from closing the gap.
Anne Arundel continues its Region 20 slate Tuesday with a 5 p.m. Region 20 divisional game at CCBC Catonsville. The Riverhawks return to Jenkins Gym on Thursday, February 19, to host Delaware Tech in the Riverhawks' Play4Kay game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game and support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
