WESTMINSTER, Md. —The No. 13 Anne Arundel Community College women's soccer team exploded for seven first-half goals on the way to an 8-3 victory over Carroll Community College in the Riverhawks' Region 20 opener on Tuesday afternoon.
The Riverhawks wasted no time getting on the board, as Emma Miga scored in the opening minute off an assist from Reagan Chilton. Less than two minutes later, Maddie Raynes doubled the lead on a setup from Alaina Minefski.
Anne Arundel's attack kept rolling, with Miga adding her second goal in the 7th minute. MacKenzie Baldwin, Minefski, and Miga struck in a three-minute span midway through the half to push the lead to 6-0. Eleyna Entsminger capped the first-half scoring in the 35th minute off a feed from Miga.
Carroll fought back after halftime, as Lana O'Donnell recorded a hat trick with three goals in a six-minute stretch. But Anne Arundel sealed the win when Entsminger netted her second goal in the 66th minute, assisted by Alyssa Simms.
Miga led the Riverhawks with three goals and two assists, while Entsminger added two goals. Minefski contributed a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Ryleigh Smoot made two saves in the win.
The win marks the first on the season for the Riverhawks, who are idle until a 5 p.m. home game against the College of Southern Maryland on Tuesday, September 2.
