COLUMBIA, Md. – Freshmen Riley Sheets and Kat Budowski each scored twice as the second seed Anne Arundel Community College women's soccer team defeated sixth seed Allegany, 6-0, in the NJCAA Region 20 DII Semifinals at Howard Community College Wednesday afternoon. The brace marked a career first for both players.
Sheets scored twice within the opening 18 minutes of the game, first finishing a cross from Alyssa Simms in the ninth minute and then converting a pass from Reagan Chilton less than 10 minutes later. Simms finished the game with two assists, and put in her own rebound for a goal in the 50th minute.
Emma Miga, the nation's leader in both points and goals, made it 3-0 AACC with a penalty kick goal in the 33rd minute, and Simms connected with Budowski for her first goal of the game to give the Riverhawks a 4-0 advantage headed into halftime.
After Simms made it 5-0 early in the second half, Budowski capped the scoring in the 62nd minute, splitting a pair of defenders before sending in a long ball for her second tally of the game.
AACC keeper Ryleigh Smoot made four saves to extend her shutout streak to 447:10, spanning seven games.
The 18th-ranked Riverhawks (14-4) face top seed College of Southern Maryland in the Region 20 DII championship game at 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 1 at Howard Community College. The game is a rematch of last year's championship, which saw AACC outlast a late CSM rally to win, 3-2, on AACC's home turf.
