Six From Women's Soccer Named All-Region
Riverhawks were the only team with six honorees across first and second teams
ARNOLD, Md. – Six members of the Anne Arundel Community College women's soccer team have been named All-Region 20, it was announced recently. Emma Miga, Alyssa Simms, and McKenzie Gilbert were named to the first team, while Eleyna Entsminger, Eden Abey, and Ryleigh Smoot were named to the second team. AACC was the only program with six players named to the first and second teams.
Miga, a forward from Millersville, Md., repeats as an All-Region 20 first team selection after leading all of NJCAA Division II in points (74) and goals (31) this season. Her 12 assists were the most in Region 20. Miga scored in 16 of 20 games with four hat tricks and 11 multi-goal games. She recorded her 100th career point in the Riverhawks' regular season finale on October 16, and was named to the Region 20 All-Tournament Team.
Simms, a freshman forward from Pasadena, Md., ranked second in Region 20 with 11 assists, and sixth in the Region with 39 points. Simms scored 14 goals, the second-most on the team. She had two six-point outings with a pair of goals and two assists against Howard and Garrett. Simms scored her first career hat trick and added an assist in the Riverhawks' regular season finale on October 25, and scored the game-winning goal of the Region 20 championship with just 11 seconds left on the clock. Simms was also named to the Region 20 All-Tournament Team.
Gilbert, a sophomore defender from Severn, Md., started all 20 games on defense for the Riverhawks. She anchored a line that helped AACC to record five-straight shutouts in October, allowing opponents just seven shots on net in the span. Gilbert also added five goals on the season, netting two at Prince George's on October 18. She was also named to the Region 20 All-Tournament Team.
Entsminger, a freshman forward from Pasadena, Md., ranked third on the team in points with 28. She scored 10 goals and added eight assists in 19 games this season, scoring in six straight games between September 9 and October 2.
Abey, a sophomore defender from Pasadena, Md., started all 20 games at defense for the Riverhawks, and was often tasked with marking the opposition's best striker. Abey contributed to AACC's stingy back line that limited opponents to fewer than seven shots per game and held opponents to zero shots on five occasions. The award marks the second for Abey, who was named to the honorable mention team in 2024.
Smoot, a freshman goalkeeper from Pasadena, Md., led Region 20 with a 1.20 goals against average and was tied for fifth in the region with 20 goals allowed overall. She recorded 10 shutouts in 20 starts during her rookie campaign, and put together a shutout streak of 463:21 spanning seven games from October 11-29. Smoot was also named to the Region 20 All-Tournament Team.
AACC wrapped up the season as the NJCAA DII East District Runner Up with a 15-5 record. The Riverhawks claimed their second-straight Region 20 title and recorded back-to-back double-digit win seasons for the first time since 2012.
