ARNOLD, Md. -- The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball put together a strong second half but could not overcome a hot-shooting Howard squad in an 87–63 loss in the Region 20 divisional opener for both teams Wednesday night at Jenkins Gym.
The Riverhawks (0–2, 0–1 Region 20) found their rhythm after halftime, scoring 42 points in the final 20 minutes behind standout efforts from Ryan Stacy, Jaylen Marbley, and Zamar Jones.
Stacy led AACC with 18 points, including a 6-for-7 performance at the free-throw line, and added two steals. Marbley knocked down three 3-pointers on his way to 11 points and three assists, while Jones scored eight points before fouling out late.
Anne Arundel shot 38.7% from the floor and hit six three-pointers, while also recording 13 assists on 24 made field goals. Al-Ameen Sanni anchored the interior with eight rebounds and a team-high five assists.
Howard (4–4, 1–0) shot 56.1% overall and placed four players in double figures, led by Myles McDuffie's 19 points and nine rebounds.
Anne Arundel returns to action in Jenkins Gym this Saturday, facing Cecil in a 1 p.m. NJCAA Region 20 divisional game.
