Men's Basketball Secures Divisional Win vs Beaver County
Jaylen Marbley scored 21 points, dished 11 assists
ARNOLD, Md. — Riverhawks sophomore Jaylen Marbley scored 21 points and dished out 11 assists as the Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team held off Community College of Beaver County, 76-71, in NJCAA Region 20 divisional action Saturday at Jenkins Gym.
Marbley went 5-for-10 from the field and hit two 3-pointers, adding nine free throws to lead the Riverhawks (2-8). Al-Ameen Sanni dominated inside with 16 points and 16 rebounds, while Zamar Jones chipped in 11 points and John Hutton added eight.
AACC led 35-29 at halftime and built its largest lead at 58-42 with 10:24 remaining after Marbley's fast-break layup and a 3-pointer. CCBC (4-13) rallied behind Trey Armstrong, who scored a game-high 36 points, including seven 3-pointers, cutting the deficit to 74-68 with 1:08 left. But Jake Evans sank two free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.
AACC shot 44.6% from the floor and 39.1% from 3-point range, and benefitted from a team performance of 17-for-25 at the free throw line. The Riverhawks outrebounded the Titans by a 41-33 margin, pulling down 30 off the defensive glass alone. CCBC hit 12 three-pointers, but managed just 38.1% shooting overall.
AACC travels to Prince George's Wednesday for a 7 p.m. NJCAA Region 20 divisional game.
