Delaware Tech Edges Past Men's Basketball
Riverhawks host Westmoreland Sunday afternoon
ARNOLD, Md. — Anne Arundel Community College built a 15‑point second‑half lead but couldn't hold off a late surge, falling 87–85 to Delaware Technical Community College on Wednesday night at Jenkins Gym.
Ryan Stacy powered AACC with 25 points and nine assists, shooting 11-for-19 while adding six rebounds and three steals. Jaylen Marbley added 14 points, six steals and five assists. Anthony Thomas scored 14, hitting four 3‑pointers in his second career start. Al‑Ameen Sanni contributed 17 points and eight rebounds, while Fualefeh Fuanya posted eight points, seven boards and a pair of blocks.
AACC (3–16) led 61–46 midway through the second half, fueled by strong transition scoring and a balanced offensive attack. The Riverhawks scored 44 points in the paint, generated 29 points off turnovers, and shot 48.6% from the field with 24 assists on 34 makes. But Delaware Tech climbed back behind a 49‑point second half and key late threes, including Adam Bailey's go‑ahead triple with 12 seconds left.
The final two minutes saw five lead changes. After Stacy finished a driving layup to put AACC up 85–81 with 36 seconds left, Delaware Tech answered with a three, two free throws, and the decisive Bailey triple. AACC's final look—a contested three after a long inbounds pass with one second left on the clock fell just short.
AACC's defense shined through long stretches, particularly early, generating 14 steals and holding Delaware Tech to 38 first‑half points. But the visitors found a rhythm inside, scoring 52 points in the paint and getting a game‑high 25 points from Chase Wright, plus 21 from Obi Coleman and 17 from Jaxon Lennon.
AACC hosts Westmoreland Sunday at 3 p.m. in a Region 20 divisional game at Jenkins Gym.
