The Riverhawks added another win at home to their record, defeating the NJCAA DI Region XIX Vikings from Mercer County Community College, 4-0, this Saturday afternoon (10/13). Despite being down a few on the roster due to illness and injuries, the Riverhawks pulled together for a great team win.
Madeline Stevenson (Severn, MD/Archbishop Spalding) would put AACC on the board for the early 1-0 lead, finishing off an assist from Aileen Rivera Cubero (San Antonio, TX/Old Mill) 5 minutes into the match. Continuing to push her speed, Cubero would find the net herself – giving the Riverhawks the 2-0 lead 9 minutes in. Despite outshooting the Riverhawks (6-4) in the first half, the Vikings would fail to get one past AACC goalkeeper Hannah Lieb (Annapolis, MD) who finished the first half with 6 saves (9 total). The teams would head into halftime intermission with AACC leading 2-0.
The Riverhawks would work to create opportunities for themselves, peppering the Vikings goalkeeper with 9 shots in the second half. It wouldn't be until the 83rdminute when Jenna Holthaus (Arnold, MD/Broadneck) would finish on one of the those shots, assisted from Alessandra Gargano (Linthicum, MD/North County) to put the Riverhawks up 3-0. The last goal of the match would come from Stevenson for her second on the day, assisted by Angela Sarrach (Crofton,MD/South River). The Riverhawks would earn the victory over the Vikings, 4-0
